To the pious memory of the late most excellent and virtuous Mrs Mary Baskerville widow and relict of Thomas Baskerville Esq of Richardston in this county and Lord of this mannour and daughter of Richard Jones of Hanham in the county of Gloucester esq, who liv’d to a good old age and dy’ed full of honour and merit being blest with a plentiful fortune which she managed with ye greatest discretion and apply’ed to the most commendable uses. She was a loving and dutiful wife a tender and affectionate mother and the very best of grand mothers. She was a true lover of the church of England and of all its true and sincere sons. She was religious without affectation and without ostentation generous and free, Courteous, affable, and obliging, to all she conversed with, and compasionate and charitable to all that were disstressed and afflicted. And for a memorial of her and her excellent qualities and virtues George Baskerville of this place, Gent her youngest (living) son in testimony of his duty and gratitude hath erected this monument. She changed this life for a better May 3rd AD 1724 aged 81 years. Ohappy soul why should we grieve or mourne for thee since thou art gone with God above to be.
