Politics and Policy
About Peter B. Gemma
He is a recipient of the George Washington Honors Medal from Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge (founded in 1949 by Dwight Eisenhower) for his “knowledge and appreciation of our democratic political process.”
Peter has been published in a variety of venues including USA Today (where more than 100 of his commentaries have appeared); DailyCaller.com; The Washington Examiner; AmericanThinker.com; Military History; Op/EdNews.com; Chronicles; Human Events; and Britain’s WarHistoryOnLine.com.
His essays and articles have been reprinted in three college textbooks: Critical Thinking (Mayfield Publishing), Reading for Thinking (Houghton Mifflin), and Logic (Holt, Rinehart, and Winston), as well as in the books Superpowers: A New Détente (Greenhaven Press) and 20th Century Heroes (American Opinion Publishing).
Peter Gemma is one of the top New Right strategists.
~ Mike Wallace, 60 Minutes TV
In a 35-year career as a fundraiser and political consultant, Peter worked with non-profit organizations, advocacy groups, and political campaigns. His clientele included the American Institute for Cancer Research; commentator G. Gordon Liddy; the Military Order of the Purple Heart; the American Academy of Physician Assistants; Jazz magazine; the National Association of Arab Americans; Prison Fellowship International; the Armenian Assembly; and the Wildfowl Trust of North America.
His experience ranges from conducting a development audit and creating a five-year funding plan for a private school in Mexico, to managing a Michigan hospital’s five million dollar campus renovation and expansion.
Peter has coordinated voter contact and fundraising mail for dozens of political campaigns, including a successful effort to defeat a referendum mandating taxpayer underwriting of a Pittsburgh sports stadium.
In 1981, Life magazine cited Peter as one of seven influential “Young Turks” who shaped the Reagan era conservative movement. He has conducted political training seminars for candidates and campaign personnel around the country and abroad, and served as a staff member in four presidential campaigns: Ronald Reagan in 1980, Pat Buchanan’s Reform Party bid in 2000, as well as Congressman Ron Paul’s candidacies in 2008 and 2012. Long active in the Republican Party of Virginia, Peter was elected as a Delegate to the 1992 Republican National Convention and was appointed to the GOP platform committee. He abstained rather than vote for President George H. W. Bush.
His political activities have led to numerous media appearances including “60 Minutes,” Voice of America, “The McLaughlin Group,” BBC, “Nightline,” C-Span, “All Things Considered,” Canadian Broadcasting, “The Charlie Rose Show,” RTV (Russian Broadcasting), and as a frequent guest and co-host of CNN’s “Crossfire.”
Now a freelance writer, Peter is working on a book about politics in the South during the years 1956-1976.
Peter Gemma has always been one of my favorite writers — and, refreshingly rejecting the prevailing conventional wisdom with regularity, one of the country’s most astute and insightful political observers.
~ Darcy Richardson, author of a dozen books on politics including McGovern: The Last Hurrah, and Bernie: A Lifelong Crusade Against Wall Street & Wealth
