Since 2014, Miss Rwanda is organised by Rwanda Inspiration Backup - led by Dieudonne Ishimwe. Prior to that, Miss Rwanda was organised by Mashirika Performing Arts and Media Company, in 2012, and by telecom company Rwandatel, in 2009. It was first organised, however, by Partners International in December 1993.
Miss Rwanda is a cultural event, and they see it as fitting within their social cooperate responsibilities, the pageant was sponsored by Rwandatel. Miss Rwanda will ensure that the winner adheres to the set rules and behaves in a manner acceptable of beauty queens, to make certain that the institution of Miss Rwanda is respected. The 1st edition Miss Rwanda 2009 was held on December 19, 2009 and Grace Bahati was made a history to become Miss Rwanda.
In 2017 Maria Surangi Tsehai handed over Miss Universe franchise with Miss Rwanda Organization. The winner will represent Rwanda at the Miss Universe.
