Jamtala is a village in Kultali CD block in Baruipur subdivision of South 24 Parganas district in the state of West Bengal, India.

Area overview

Baruipur subdivision is a rural subdivision with moderate levels of urbanization. 31.05% of the population live in urban areas and 68.95% live in the rural areas. In the southern portion of the subdivision (shown in the map alongside) there are 20 census towns. The entire district is situated in the Ganges Delta and the southern part is covered by the Baruipur-Jaynagar Plain.[1][2][3]

Demographics

As per the 2011 Census of India, Jamtala had a total population of 4,495, of which 2,294 (51%) were males and 2,201 (49%) were females. Population below 6 years was 536. The total number of literates in Jamtala was 3,063 (77.37% of the population over 6 years).[4]

Civic administration

The map of CD block Kultali on page 749 in District Census Handbook for South 24 Parganas shows the block headquarters as being located in Jamtala.[5]

Transport

Local roads link Jamtala to Canning and Jaynagar Majilpur.[6]

Education

Jamtala Bhagaban Chandra Higher Secondary School is a coeducational higher secondary school.[7]

Healthcare

Joynagar Rural Hospital at Jamtala, with 25 beds is the major government medical facility in Kultali CD block.[8]
