PraefurniaThe ovens used for heating the warm and hot baths Thermal baths / Villa Romana del Casale / Piazza Armerina / Sicily / Italy
The ovens are accessed from the outside of the baths of the villa. Each of the three ovens had a cylidrical shape. On the inside the ovens were covered with terracotta pipes to prevent the outer wall from cracking due to the heat.
The upper parts of the ovens are collapsed, leaving the internal structure of the ovens exposed.
Prints of the photographs are available — read more here.
