The Romans imported the Greek god Apollo Roman Religion and Mythology / Lexicon

The god Apollo was originally of Greek origin but was 'adopted' by the Romans at a very early date. The first Temple of Apollo in Rome is from 433 BCE, but it had be be built outside the pomerium since it was still a non-Roman cult.

Apollo was the god for healing, oracles, prophecies, hunting, music and poetry.

The first Roman emperor had a special relationship to Apollo and built a temple for Apollo on the Palatine, the Temple of Apollo Palatinus.
