Reproductive life span in female macaques (Macaca spp.), chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes), and humans (Homo sapiens) depicting approximate ages at puberty, menopause, and maximum life span. The following numbers were used: macaque: 3.5 yr [58], 25 yr [42], 40 yr [57]; chimpanzee: 8 yr [59], 50 yr [47], 60 yr [50]; and human: 12.5 yr [60], 80 yr [44], 122 yr [45].
