Statement published 31 May 2018

Manchester United has made a commitment to tackle ticket touting with the co-operation of our supporters, including via our Fans Forum and the Manchester United Supporters Trust. It is important to remember that every time a ticket is touted, a Man Utd fan has been exploited and made the victim of criminal activity. Our anti-touting strategy is, and will continue to be, to cut off the supply of tickets to touts.

Season Ticket Holders are permitted to lend their ticket to friends and family for home matches but remain responsible for their use. Away tickets and Official Membership tickets are strictly non-transferable and can only be used by the individual who purchased them.

Our Official Sanctions and associated appeals process are clear, transparent, robust and fair. Our Official Sanctions, including appeals, were developed in conjunction with our Fans Forum and the Appeals Panel includes an independent supporter representative from the Football Supporters Federation.

This season a number of supporters have escalated complaints about the Official Sanction they were given to the Independent Football Ombudsman (IFO). The club appreciates the work of the IFO within football’s complaints procedure and will always co-operate fully with their investigations.

In three cases during the 18/19 season the IFO recommended that a supporter’s Official Sanction be amended. The club’s response to those recommendations is below.

IFO 18/03: The IFO recommendation is not supported and no change will be made to the official sanction.

- There is no doubt that the tickets were touted at an inflated rate
- The tickets were purchased by someone not known to the Season Ticket Holder. The purchase was in public outside the stadium, this is a criminal exchange

IFO 18/10: The IFO recommendation is not supported but the Official Sanction will be halved to an 18 month home and away suspension.

- There is no doubt that the tickets were touted for an inflated price
- There is some doubt as to whether or not the touting victim gave fully accurate information when in the Ticket Office

IFO 18/11: The IFO recommendation is not supported and no change will be made to the official sanction

- There is no doubt that the tickets were touted for an inflated price
- The tickets were purchased by someone not known to the Season Ticket Holder. The purchase was in public outside the stadium, this is a criminal exchange
