The latest inductees into English Football's Hall of Fame have been announced - and this time there are no surprises.

Two defenders from Sir Alex Ferguson's trophy-laden era at Old Trafford, Rio Ferdinand and Denis Irwin, will be inducted while Liverpool greats Mark Lawrenson and Billy Liddell also take their places.

Everton's legendary Welsh stopper Neville Southall is another entrant, along with Arsenal and England goalkeeper David Seaman.

Current Scotland manager Gordon Strachan gets the nod along with fellow Scot John Robertson, who was once described by his Nottingham Forest manager Brian Clough as the 'Picasso' of football.

From the women's game, England stars Rachel Unitt and Rachel Brown-Finnis will be inducted, while the honour roll will be completed with the inclusion of Paralympic Great Britain and England Cerebral Palsy player Martin Sinclair, brother of Aston Villa winger Scott.

The new entrants will be inducted at an award ceremony in October, where they will join legends such as Sir Tom Finney, Gordon Banks, Alan Shearer and last year’s inductees Gary Neville and Norman Hunter.

Inductees are chosen by a panel featuring some of the biggest names in football including the Museum’s President Sir Bobby Charlton, Vice President Sir Alex Ferguson and Gordon Taylor.

National Football Museum Director Dr. Kevin Moore said: 'Our expectations have been surpassed this year as our inductees have continued to amaze us not just with their talent, but their commitment to the game.'

This time around, the 11 entrants all hail from the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Last year, the Manchester-based National Football Museum, which houses the Hall of Fame, came under fire after former Manchester City and Sheffield United full back Sun Jihai was a shock inductee.

The China international, who enjoyed a solid if uninspiring career, seemed an unlikely choice until it emerged that his unveiling just happened to coincide with Chinese President Xi Jinping visit to the attraction, along with chancellor George Osborne, in a seemingly transparent move which sparked widespread ridicule.
