The procedural guidelines and timetable have been agreed for the Scottish Leadership Election 2017.

Stakeholders have been sent important informaton about the contest and their role in it.  You can find these papers below:

Nominations open on Monday 11 September.  We will update the website every day until the close of nominations at 12noon on Sunday 17 September.

Candidates for Leader must already be elected as either an MP, MSP or MEP.   Details of nominated candidates can be found here.

Supporting Nominations
Supporting nominations open on Monday 18 September and close at 12noon on Friday 13 October.  Every CLP, Councillor and Affiliated Organisation has a right to cast a supporting nomination for their preferred candidate. Click here for the CLP Supporting Nomination Guidelines.

This election will be held on a one-person-one-vote basis. There are three sets of people who can vote:

Labour Party members -  (Join or renew here)
Affiliated supporters - people who’ve signed up as a Labour Party supporter through one of our affiliated organisations or unions (Become an affiliated supporter here)
Registered supporters - people who’ve registered that they support the Labour Party by signing up online and paying a one-off fee of £12 (Become a registered supporter here)

Leadership Announcement
The results of the election for Leader of the Scottish Labour Party will be declared at an event on Saturday 18 November.

Key dates
Monday 11 September - Nominations open for Leader
Saturday 16 September - Nomination Hustings for MSPs, MPs and MEPs
Sunday 17 September - Nominations close. Validly nominated candidates for Leadership to be published
Monday 18 September - Supporting nominations open.  Scottsh Labour Party hustings period opens.
Monday 9 October - Last date to join as member, affiliated supporter, or registered supporter, in order to vote in the Leadership ballot.
Friday 13 October - Supporting nominations close
Friday 27 October - Ballot opens.  Scottish Labour Party hustings period closes
Friday 17 November at 12noon - Ballot closes
Saturday 18 November - Result announced
