Exclusive: New Tool Album Reportedly Finished, Set For 2014 Release

Guitarist Adam Jones confirmed to a fan in Portland that the follow-up to 10,000 Days is complete.

March 6th, 2014 Johnny Firecloud

Will we finally see a new Tool album this year? Though they are certainly known for hijinks and misinformation, according to guitarist Adam Jones the long-awaited new Tool record, the follow-up to 2006's dark masterpiece 10,000 Days, is complete.

At a pre-show VIP meet & greet in Portland, OR on Thursday afternoon on the band's current tour, guitarist Adam Jones confirmed to our exclusive source that the alien-prog rock maestros' new album is "100% done" and should arrive later this year. Aside from a mention of different time signatures than their previous work, there is no other information to report at the moment. The confirmation is certainly enough to get pulses racing, however.

Danny Carey, Tool‘s polyrhythmically demonic drummer, did an interview last Spring in which he shared the promising news that the time-signature-molesting legends would enter the studio to begin tracking their new album “sometime in June or July.” Given that we've progressed nearly a year since that date, and frontman Maynard James Keenan has harvested his grapes and sown his awesome weirdo oats, the news doesn't seem outlandish.

In the meantime, conspiracies abound that Tool is neck-deep in making a movie, as the band is out on tour with the mighty Failure.

Tool tour dates:

March 4 – Spokane, WA @ Spokane Arena
March 6 – Portland, OR @ Moda Center
March 7 – Eugene, OR @ Matthew Knight Arena
March 9 – Reno, NV @ Reno Event Center
March 11 – San Francisco, CA @ Bill Graham Civic Auditorium
March 14 – Fresno, CA @ Selland Arena
March 15 – Las Vegas, NV @ Planet Hollywood
March 16 – San Diego, CA @ Valley View Arena
March 18 – Mexico City, MX @ Palacio De Los Deportes
March 21 – Veracruz, MX @ Festival Cumbre Tajin 2014
March 24 – Austin, TX @ Cedar Park Center
March 25 – Houston, TX @ Toyota Center

Keep up with Tool at their official site… and good luck with that!
