The Fans Have Spoken: SLAYER Comes Out On Top In Readers' Polls - Mar. 1, 2007 Having won their first-ever Grammy Award last month — "Best Metal Performance" for the track "Eyes of the Insane" — thrash icons SLAYER have just picked up a handful of even more awards, and these are from the fans.

Revolver magazine's 2007 "Readers' Poll" singled out SLAYER's Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman as "Best Guitarist/Guitar Team," and also named Dave Lombardo as "Best Drummer." SLAYER also placed Top 5 in the categories "Best Band Ever," "Best Live Band," "Album of the Year" (for "Christ Illusion"), and Band of the Year."

In its brand new issue, Spin's 2006 Readers Poll named SLAYER the "Best Live Band," coming in ahead of PANIC! AT THE DISCO and THE KILLERS.

SLAYER headlined last summer's North American/European "Unholy Alliance Tour", as well as their just-concluded winter 2007 North American tour. They kick off their first Australian tour in five years on April 12, and will play some of the major European festivals in early summer. More North American tour plans for later this year will be announced shortly. From 1982 till about '94 There really wasn't much out there better.

I'll agree with best live band, and best drummer, best guitar team is a joke. I kind of have to agree with a top 5 best bands ever just because I'm a slayer fan boy. I dont even know what band of the year means.

yes Slayer is not the most talented band out there. who fuckin' cares?

SLAYER was voted "best live band" in Spin mag! that's damn weird for chrissakes. and Revolver isn't exactly a metal mag either. so, c'mon, show some support for a metal band getting some props. and SLAYER won a Grammy!

I hate fake awards as much as the next person, but that's still recognition of metal in the wider community ...

What is Slayer the new Metallica now? Whatever, I appreciate Slayer, I don't really enjoy their current efforts, but I agree they did they a shitload for the community...but you know when I used to Revolver? When I was 12-16, then I just got sick of the bullshit trendwhoring. I mean when it wasn't KoRn it was Limp Bizkit, and then Linkin Park, and revolver was all over the dicks of those kinds of bands like they were the 'heroes of metal'. When that died out, they latched onto the 'new wave thrash' bands like Shadows Fall and Lamb of God...point is, I can't take anything about that magazine seriously.

As for Spin..come on that shouldn't even be up for discussion. So when you say the fans have spoken, you OBVIOUSLY mean fans of Slayer...that just so happen to read Spin magazine...WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU?!

You all look at this with blind eyes.

Most people who vote or read these magazines are emo or indie or nu metal and instead of thinking that at long last they are praising a band that is still going instead of a band that are nothing but a fad and last 5 seconds.

I love Slayer and I agree that they are nowhere near the best band in the world, but I doubt the likes of Wintersun will win awards from these mags. Or that Nick Barker will win best drummer award.

Slayer won it and are popular again, deal with it. They might be overhyped but in this day and age, so is every band that is popular (Metallica, Pantera, Anthrax, Megadeth, Nile, Dragonforce, etc)

What I would like to see is more people saying "good for them" and more people realising what i have said.

I guess success should be spelled suckcess. Since everytime a good band gets mentioned a few days in a row, some assholes come out and talk shit about them.
I've seen some fools talk about how good Slayer are one time, then say they suck another time.

So what if 14 year olds voted for Slayer.. What does that say?? when I was 14 in the 80's I would have voted for them, same as I would have today, if anything it means their fanbase is from 14-60. That's pretty fucking good. The fact that they are still kicking the shit out of the metal bands out there today means a lot. The same people that complain they didn't change weren't fans to begin with, because their fans don't want change, they want fuckin Slayer. If they changed you'd be calling them sellouts anyway. So jump on the bandwagon kiddies. Bash Slayer all you want' They've gotten worse than a few bad comments by cowards behind a computer screen.

For some reason, they're recieving all this attention from the mainstream this year but they haven't done anything pop-like to their formula. Christ Illusion isn't even the greatest Slayer album this year. It's just the media hurting Slayer's image and status.

$55.00 Hoodies made in China.. That are paper thin.. I know I bought one a Lupos in R.I.. I have it on Now.. My Municipal waste Hoodie is Thicker and warmer.. And Was only $35.00?
Slayer Shoe laces, and Clocks? And I could not make this up.... Candles..? Whats next, Slayer Feminine Hygiene Products?
Well I guess It was bound to happen. They Need cash right,,.. But Man I don't Know if I can remain such a Huge fan, If after all these years of searching Has gone by the wayside.. I remember Looking for Slayer Tapes when I was Living in Rural Maine, back in 1985.. I had to do a metal Blade mail order.. I suppose now you can get Slayer at You local mall hot topic. And Listen to some edited "store friendly" Pantara while you buy your Slayer Coffee mug Slayer Hat, Denim Slayer Mens Jeans, Slayer After Shave, Slayer Sunglasses, Slayer Waste Bin, Slayer Lunch Box, Slayer X-mas Ornament, And don't forget your Slayer Mouse Pad.... It makes it hard for a DIE HARD FAN OF 20 YEARS (I am 34 now) TO REMAIN SERIOUS. Whats more, there set at lupos In R.I. was weak.. A Planed 2 song encore.. That was weak and then the Lights.. Maybe if they did not make us wait so long between bands they could have found the time to Play a song or two off of Hell Awaits.. But Oh yeah the Younger fans would not have Known those songs.. so they don't make the cut.. Hey Kerry hang it up and let me Remember Slayer with fondness. Instead Of being ashamed at the massive sellout.. A Grammy? Well down play it all you want Kerry.. But the fact is.. The Grammy will help you sell More of those fancy Slayer X-mas Bulbs..
