SLAYER: 'Christ Illusion' Lands At No. 5 On BILLBOARD Chart! - Aug. 16, 2006 SLAYER's "Christ Illusion" sold more than 62,000 copies in its first week of release in the United States to debut at position No. 5 on The Billboard 200 chart. This is the highest position ever on the chart for SLAYER, who previously reached No. 8 with their 1994 release "Divine Intervention" after moving 93,000 copies of that album in its first week.

SLAYER's last album, 2001's "God Hates Us All", registered a first-week tally of 51,000 to land at No. 28, while 1998's "Diabolus In Musica" opened with 46,000 units, debuting at No. 31.

"God Hates Us All" has sold 304,000 copies in the United States so far, according to Nielsen SoundScan — roughly in line with the number achieved by its predecessor, "Diabolus In Musica", which currently stands at about 290,000. Several of the earlier SLAYER albums have been certified gold for sales in excess of 500,000 copies in the United States, including "Divine Intervention", which has moved 493,000 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan. This in reply to the person who said show no mercy is Slayer's best album, and the antichrist their best song:

Dude, you have taken so much acid, speed, and booze back in 1984 that your brain has frozen. Show No Mercy is not a great album. It is not even 10% as good as Seasons, Reign, South, or Divine. And christ illusion is far better than show no mercy.

I don't know if it was you or someone else who said antichrist is the best slayer song, but .... I suppose that means it is better than Angel of Death. That must be why Slayer closes every live show they do with the Antichrist, and why they fill their whole setlist up with songs off show no mercy. Because of course show no mercy is by far the best slayer album.

Let me guess, you think Kill em all is Metallica's best, and Killing is my Business is Megadeth's best. Right?

congratulations slayer.

ive lsitened to the albums several times through and to be honest its not AMAZING. its got some very good tracks (i like Skeleton Christ and Jihad) on it but overall i dont think its varied or exciting enough. plus the old problem with the lame lyrics. so overall id give it 6/10, but nice to see a proper metal album in the top 10.

SLAYER is a shit band, and CHRIST ILLUSION is a shit album. KERRY

Those numbers means nothing at all. Everyone with half a brain kknows that Slayer has a die hard audience which snap the albums by week 1. Watch CI take a deep dive by week 2 and no even be in the top 20 anymore. Plus this record was sold on a kinda true retorn to form fashion and it's not exactly what CI is. This record sucks in every department. Bad songs filled with bad lyrics and cheap shock value. Kerry King rules white trash land.

Their large fanbase was responsible for the #5 position, but their success on the charts is going to be short-lived. Only bands that get constant mainstream radio play will sell millions of copies of one particular album. Over time, CI will slip further down and down the charts.

Enjoy the success while it lasts, guys.

Everyone knows that... That does not take away anything from the achievement. That happens to every metal band. Pantera debuted at #1 with Far Beyond Driven and dropped after one week. It's still a number 1 album.

Sure it will drop like a rock but so what. It's 2006 and Slayer cracked the top 5. That's alright by me.

I thought they were going to try to coast by on shock value but CI is actually a very good. Three or four tracks sound like good old classic 80s Slayer. There's a couple that sound like they belong on GHUA but they are better than on that album. Eyes of the Insane has to be the lamest Slayer song ever recorded. Good lyrical concept but the music sucks. Cult has the opposite problem, good music but the lyrics are dumb. Jihad is kind of weak. Rest are good to go.

Overall, I like it better than Seasons, which is my least favorite of their classic era.

Dude first thing is its subjective. Without a doubt Slayer have released far superior tracks. But the truth is if your a metal noob like you obviously, you wouldn't understand. When SHOW NO MERCY was released I had to scour the earth to get albums by them Metallica Megadeth whoever and the early classics are "classics" for a reason.. This album was my first taste of Slayer and to this day I love that fucking album. It definetly could stand a re-record ala Testament but oh fuckin well. NOOB!

And Show No Mercy is FAR better than CI. At least it had some classic songs, better solos and more memerable riffs, what does CI have?? FUCK ALL!

Nothing and I mean NOTHING even remotely interesting or memerable about it.

Noob? You dick. I've been listening to metal since 1975. Please take off your rose tinted headphones and shove them up your ass. Nostalgia means nothing to me. To an objective ear, Christ Illusion is better than show no mercy. I have all the slayer albums, and that's my opinion. Show no mercy is slayer's worst album. If you can't move on from 1984, that's your problem.
