Who's your favourite?

MF 2007 - some of the big guns! [UPD]

The wait is finally over for one of the most anticipated announcements of the Eurovision Calendar... the naming of the Melodifestivalen artists! Some of the all time favourite return, with Nanne Gronvall competing for the tenth time! Andreas Johnson returns after finishing in third place earlier this year and former Alcazar boys Magnus Carlsson and Andreas Lundstedt go head to head! Sonya Alden switches from English to Swedish and is tipped as a front runner whilst former Swedish representative in 2003, Jessica Andersson (Fame, 5th at the Eurovision Song Contest) has another try.

Nanne Grönvall's entry this year is likely to be her most emotional to date. She has recently returned to performing on stage in the second run of the muscial Sweet Charity after overcoming her battle with breast cancer. Her return to Melodifestivalen marks her return to the national limelight after enjoying a huge upsurge in popularity in 2005 with the song Hall om mig, which finished second and overwhelmingly won the televote in the Melodifestivalen final. She went onto huge success with the album, Alltid På Väg  and her greatest hits album 20 År med Nanne 1985-2005, celebrating 20 years in the Schalger industry.

Andreas Johnson, who has a career in the USA as well as Sweden, returns to the competition for the second successive year. After earlier claiming that he was not sure if his schedule would allow him to sing the song himself, it seems clear that his first taste of the competition with Sing for me has left him wanting more, and he seems an early favourite to improve on his 3rd place finish in 2006.

Sonya Alden is also being tipped as a front runner this time. She narrowly missed out on a second chance place earlier this year, singing Etymon, but qualified for the final as the Lyricist on The Poodles' song, Night of Passion which finished in fourth place. Sonya returns singing in Swedish this time and continues to prepare her debut album, due for release in 2007.

The boys of Alcazar, Andreas Lundstedt and Magnus Carlsson are both in the mix as solo artists this time around, and both are being tipped to win the competition. Andreas will perform for the third time as a solo artist, having performed  Driver dagg faller regn in 1996 and Jag saknar dig, jag saknar dig in 1997. He of course also entered the group Six4One and performed for Switzerland at the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest.

Magnus joined Andreas in the group Alcazar who twice reached third place in Melodifestivalen, in 2003 with Not a sinner, nor a saint and in 2005 with Alcastar. Since the group split, Magnus has developed his solo career, recently releasing his second and third solo albums, the Christmas specials, Spår I Snön and En Ny Jul. He qualified for the final last year with Lev Livet and is strongly tipped to do so again with the song Live Forever.

Jimmy Jansson is a face from Melodifestivalen 2005 and former Swedish Fame Factory participant. In his debut at Melodifestivalen, he reached the final with Vi Kan Gunga and he is expected by many to at least match that achievement this time around. He already has two albums to his name, the most recent being Som En Blixt from 2005. CD on have now re-stocked his debut album, Flickan Från Det Blå, at budget prices.

The Attic are enjoying a huge rise to stardom in Sweden at the moment. Debut album, The one was released on 8th November and went straight to the top of the Swedish itunes sales charts. Having already remixed tracks for top Swedish stars, Alcazar, Marie Serneholt and Darin amongst others. Now The Attic alias Michael Feiner & Erik Amarillo are teaming up with Therese Grankvist from Drömhus (MF 1999, second behind Charlotte Nilsson) and together they make a line-up that could be expected to win Melodifestivalen. Fans of dance music will also recognise Therese's voice from the global smash hit 'Put 'em high' in collaboration with Swedish DJ Stonewall in 2004.

For fans of Melodifestivalen, there is a compilation album available (released 2001) featuring many of the classic hits from the show over the years. Several of the 2007 participants, including Magnus Carlsson, Andreas Lundstedt, Anna Book, and Nanne Grönwall are featured. The full tracklist can be found below.

Sweden's national final is very impressive compared to most other selections, one could just wish that the songwriters would be less keen on sticking to the formula and that the selection jury would go for more daring choices. But saying that the Swedes don't make an effort would be laughable, even if one does not necessarily like their songs...

@ tony olsen
if melodifestivalen is not the best national final, would like to tell me , what is?

tony olsen [31282] Wed 29 Nov 2006 00:12:31

Sorry to say this, but Melodifestivalen is one big joke. Nearly the same names year after year, and they have recieved over 3000 songs??? Hmmmm. The songs sounds like they have done the last 10 years. Maybe Melodifestivalen is the biggest national final, but it´s not the best.

john makk [19963] Tue 28 Nov 2006 22:38:22

So happy that Nanne has decided to compete again, lesser performers would have baulked at the thought of competing again after the debacle of 2005.
Hope she has a strong entry in the same vein of 'Hall om mig', I wish there was an english version of the Soundfactory dance mix as I would have no qualms at all about playing whilst dj'ing.

My only concern is that Nanne seems to be in the strongest semi-final on paper.

zingo star [32746] Tue 28 Nov 2006 22:16:12

owen relax carola wont participate again..... atleast not for a few years..

Owen Williams [36362] Tue 28 Nov 2006 21:43:22

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't send carola again!!! can we have something a little less obvious this year please????? i like a lot of swedish pop but you can have to much of a good thing. plus i hated Carola this year really didn't like the song!!

Owen Williams [36362] Tue 28 Nov 2006 21:39:24

OMG exciting
I like Nanne Gronvall most of the time but i hope she sends a good song!!!

Carlos Carvalho [10131] Tue 28 Nov 2006 21:18:15

Jessica Andersson or Andreas Johnsosn (i hope)

I'm eager to see the wildcards

zingo star [32746] Tue 28 Nov 2006 18:36:53

yes melodifestivalen is more important nowadays for the swedish artist to win then th actuall european final.. thats just a bonus.

Alexander © [20125] Tue 28 Nov 2006 18:36:49

Yeah, Charlotte got 217 and Therese (Drömhus) 148.

Barzin Bonyadi [35622] Tue 28 Nov 2006 18:22:22

I am very impatient to hear Therese's song-stjärna pa himmelen is for me, one of the best songs of all mf!!!!
But i am not sure that Charlotte had only one point more than Drömhus...In my opinion it is something like 220-150!!

Alexander © [20125] Tue 28 Nov 2006 18:01:34

I'm shocked! Stian positive?

Stian Fikseaunet [18395] Tue 28 Nov 2006 17:42:01

hmmm....They dont mention anything about Theres soloalbum released in 2002 called "Acapulco" - its fantastic and interesting and I have it myself- so BUY IT people

William Francis [36633] Tue 28 Nov 2006 17:33:44

Im suprised Carola and Lena Phillipson want to compete again. Is MelodiFestival performed to a crowd bigger than the final itself?

Barry Viniker [esctoday.com editor] Tue 28 Nov 2006 17:27:04

Any time Alexandra,

my pleasure

Alexander © [20125] Tue 28 Nov 2006 16:57:05

Thanks for correcting, Barry Vinegar!

I recommend everyone to buy the Attic CD's if you're into dance/house.. it's a great album, catchy and full of hits!

David P [36420] Tue 28 Nov 2006 16:54:29

Where is BWO????????? Andreas Johnson or Magnus Carlsson to Athens, please!! But I am very disappointed with this list! In 2006 it was MUCH better performers in MF! I hope the songs are better this time, but I really doubt...

zingo star [32746] Tue 28 Nov 2006 14:35:18

I SOOOOO HOPE SONYA ALDEN WINS.. OR THERESE GRANKVIST...I THINK JESSICA ANDERSSON AND ANNA BOOK WILL BE FIGHTING FOR REAL FOR THE WINNING TO!"!

benjamin k [32439] Tue 28 Nov 2006 14:28:16

Delighted to hear that Nanne is making a return. She should have been the Swedish representative in 2005 - "Las Vegas" was never going anywhere. I'll be there to cheer her on in the Globen - Nanne for the final!

Daniel Stevens [36678] Tue 28 Nov 2006 14:19:33

I want the Attic album, I'll buy this later. Does anyone know if Dromus have an album?

esctoday.com - please publish a link to buy that one!

Adrian Collins [25044] Tue 28 Nov 2006 13:55:49
