Electronic absorption spectrum of cobalt antipyrine complex

Abstract

The electronic absorption spectrum of cobalt antipyrine complex in the form of a single crystal is studied both at laboratory and liquid nitrogen temperatures. The spectrum is characteristic of Co 2+ ion in an octahedral crystal field with bands exhibiting spin-orbit splittings at liquid nitrogen temperature. A good fit is obtained with the following crystal field parameters. B = 0.85 kK, C = 37.00 kK, Dq = 0.84 kK, ζ = 0.50 kK.
