TORONTO — Metallica are set to make a new record – their tenth, and first since 2008’s Death Magnetic – next year, the band announced during a recent interview with Postmedia.

Speaking in support of their upcoming IMAX 3D concert film, Metallica: Through The Never, which premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival, guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo confirmed the band is planning to head to the studio in 2014.

“We’re going to make another album next year,” Hammett and Trujillo exclaimed together when asked if the film possibly signals the end of the group.

“We’re making [Through the Never] for a very good reason,” Hammett explained. “Which is because we want to make it.”
