Steward requests/Permissions - Meta

Steward requests/Permissions

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki < Steward requests Jump to navigation Jump to searchRequests and proposals Steward requests (Permissions) latest archive Shortcut:
SRP This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia projects which do not have a local permissions procedure.

Old sections are archived by a bot. Click here for a list of archives.

  • If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).
  • For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel. In emergencies, type !steward in the channel to get the attention of stewards. Otherwise, you can type @steward for non-urgent help.

Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Using this page[edit]

1. Place the following code at the bottom of the appropriate section below:

==== User [email protected] ====
{{sr-request
 |status    = <!--don't change this line-->
 |domain    = <!-- such as en.wikibooks -->
 |user name =
 |discussion=
}}
(your remarks) ~~~~

2. Fill in the values:

  • domain: the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
  • user name: the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case you're requesting access for multiple bots, leave this field blank and give a list of these bots in your remarks
  • discussion: a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser]]").

3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Confirmation of signing confidentiality agreement[edit]

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to sign a confidentiality agreement. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also sign the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the Office.

Requests[edit]

COPY THE FOLLOWING CODE to the bottom of the appropriate section below:

==== User [email protected] ====
{{sr-request
 |status    = <!--don't change this line-->
 |domain    =
 |user name =
 |discussion=
}}

Administrator access[edit]

See administrator for information about this user group.

  • MediaWiki interface translations are done at translatewiki.net. Please do not request administrator access solely for that purpose; your request will be declined.

  • Stewards: Please use {{Systmp}} for approved temporary requests.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

For permanent adminship, please provide a link to the local community approval. For temporary adminship please state for how long and for which tasks you need it, and link to a local announcement.

@Saimawnkham: Hello, Saimawnkham. Would you please provide us your RfA link? If there is no such link, please obtain consent for 7-14 days from your community for your temporary permission. You can get consent from places such as community portal. Thank you :) --Sotiale (talk) 11:22, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
@Sotiale:, Here my RfA link. Thanks. Saimawnkham (talk) 01:42, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
 Granted for 3 months to expire on 2020-10-06. To prolong your (interface) adminship, please start another election a few days before your temporary access expires, and after a week post your request again to this page. Thanks. --Sotiale (talk) 04:13, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

Alexis [email protected][edit]

Status:    Withdrawn

User needs temporary admin (or "account creator") access for a few hours or a day for technichal maintainance. See Equals sign parser function template conflicts and discussion at User_talk:Alexis_Jazz#[email protected]_nv. Thank you. Seb az86556 (talk) 15:27, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

To clarify, I need noratelimit to carry out the maintenance at all. Nvwiki has no user group for autopatrol, so if my future 15000 edits should be autopatrolled, the only options are bot or administrator. I think in that case temporary admin is the better choice as I'm not a bot. If autopatrol isn't needed, account creator (noratelimit) will suffice. I am experienced with volume editing. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 15:56, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
@Alexis Jazz: An on-wiki discussion is always needed. Could you announce your intention at the community portal, and post a link here? Once you post the announcement, it'll be possible to grant either acount creator or bot. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 16:30, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
@Martin Urbanec: Welp, bureaucracy, here you go. (don't expect any "discussion" there, it's a microwiki, but if all you wanted was an announcement that probably won't be read by anyone but Seb az86556, well, there you have it..) — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 17:01, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
On hold until 2020-07-07. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 17:24, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
I figured I would give it a try without noratelimit, see how far I would get. It would have been convenient to have noratelimit, but it worked out without that, better than expected. It's done. Request withdrawn. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 00:22, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

Interface administrator access[edit]

See Interface admin for information about this user group.

  • If you are requesting adminship and the interface admin at the same time, you can file one request in administrator section and state you want interface adminship as well.
  • MediaWiki interface translations are done at translatewiki.net. Please do not request interface administrator access solely for that purpose; your request will be declined.
  • Since the end of 2018 all interface administrators are required to have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. Please, enable it before posting your request here.

  • Stewards: Please use {{Systmp}} for approved temporary requests.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

For permanent interface adminship, please provide a link to the local community approval. For temporary interface adminship please state for how long and for which tasks you need it, and link to a local announcement.

Bureaucrat access[edit]

See bureaucrat for information about this user group.
  • In principle, requests for temporary bureaucrat access are not granted.
  • A small project does not need bureaucrats. Currently whether a promotion is valid or not is decided by stewards. See here for a guideline.

Requests for removal of access should be posted at the section below.

CheckUser access[edit]

See CheckUser policy for information about this user group and the policy governing the use of this tool.
  • To request CheckUser information, see Steward requests/Checkuser. This is the place to request CheckUser access.
  • Temporary CheckUser access is not permitted and temporary access is only used by stewards.

Extended comment collapsed
There seem to be several irregularities with the CU election in question:
  1. The voting was started with no prior announcement or discussion whatsoever, one minute after the candidate was nominated. No rationale from the nominator or any sort of opening statement from the candidate were provided.
  2. During the course of the voting, SpeedyGonsales, an admin, made the following statement in the discussion subpage: Any sort of discussion about the good faith of those who vote against is moot as soon as we realize we have two checkusers, whose contributions are easy to check, and it is known that when one of them loses his status, this project loses its checkusers. He was then presented with a quote from CheckUser policy: In the case where only one CheckUser is left on a wiki (when the only other one retires, or is removed), the community must appoint a new CheckUser immediately (so that the number of CheckUsers is at least two). Although this quote clearly shows his claim was false, he nevertheless maintained he had been correct, and he repeated the same statement once more. Since the policy, as quoted above, is fairly unambiguous, this amounts to wilful misrepresentation, which was apparently intended to influence the participants on an alarmist platform. Indeed, two editors who voted "support" gave the same rationale.
  3. In the discussion subpage SpeedyGonsales also stated that voting against because of alleged violations of procedure is a lie wrapped in a shiny paper. He was then briefly blocked by Lasta for violations of WP:NPA and WP:AGF. While challenging the positions of other editors during a vote is perfectly fine, when an admin does so in the manner described, it is bound to produce a chilling effect. Aggravating the matter, no admins other than Lasta expressed disagreement with SpeedyGonsales' conduct. After these two statements were made, just one "oppose" vote was cast.
Finally, let me just note that Tulkas Astaldo was nominated by Kubura, which suggests the motive behind the nomination is related to the current circumstances made known to the stewards. GregorB (talk) 19:46, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Oversight access[edit]

See Oversight policy for information about this user group and the policy governing the use of this tool.
  • To request to have content oversighted, ask for a steward in #wikimedia-stewardsconnect and contact a steward privately. This section is for requesting access to the Oversight tool.
  • For contact details about oversighters across the wikis, refer to this page.
  • Note that temporary Oversight access is not permitted and temporary status is only used by stewards.

  • When a new user is assigned to this group, please add them to this list.

Removal of access[edit]

  • If you're requesting the removal of your own permissions, make sure you're logged in to your account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request (see previous discussion on 24 hour delays); the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.
  • To request the removal of another user's permissions, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted user from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. However, as bureaucrats of some wikis may remove users from the administrator or bureaucrat group, please see also a separate list of these specific wikis.
  • See the instructions above for adding new requests. Please post new requests at the bottom of the section.

Please remove my Interface admin rights in hebrew wikisource. Thanks. דגש חזק (talk) 00:29, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

@דגש חזק: Hello. hewikisource has bureaucrats, and they can revoke your IA permission. May I ask if there is a special reason to ask us? --Sotiale (talk) 04:22, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
@Sotiale:, he.wikisource is not mentioned here. Can their bureaucrats remove these rights? Cheers! Nadzik (talk) 20:52, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
Bureaurats of every wiki can remove the interface administrator right. Only a couple of large wikis bureaucrats can remove regular adminship. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 20:57, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
