In acknowledgement of the diversity of groups contributing to the Wikimedia movement, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees recognizes models of affiliation within the Wikimedia movement – chapters, thematic organizations, and user groups.

History:

The current Wikimedia affiliation models was developed by the Movement roles project. Development began in 2010 after discussion at the Chapters meeting 2010 and was approved unanimously by the Board of Trustees on March 31, 2012. The Affiliations Committee advises and makes recommendations regarding the recognition and existence of Wikimedia movement affiliates.

  • 2018-08-09 In the coming weeks an Affiliate Data survey will be launched to reach out to update key information about all affiliates.
  • 2018-06-29 Wikipedia & Education User Group is recognized as a user group for a one-year renewable period.
  • 2018-05-21 Wikimedia Community User Group Albania is recognized as a user group for a one-year renewable period.
  • 2018-05-21 Wikimedia Community User Group Tanzania is recognized as a user group for a one-year renewable period.
  • 2018-05-11 Wikiesfera Grupo de Usuarixs is recognized as a user group for a one-year renewable period.
  • 2018-05-11 Igbo Wikimedians User Group is recognized as a user group for a one-year renewable period.
  • 2018-06-5 Jenga Wikipedia ya Kiswahili is recognized as a user group for a one-year renewable period.
  • 2018-06-25 Wikimedia Community User Group Uganda is recognized as a user group for a one-year renewable period.
