EXCLUSIVE: Chad Lindberg (The Fast & the Furious, Supernatural) has been cast in Open Road’s music biopic Midnight Rider: The Gregg Allman Story. He’ll play Joseph “Red Dog” Campbell, the real life rock ‘n’ roll roadie who had a character named for him in Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous. Screenplay is by director and Randall Miller and Jody Savin based on Allman’s bestselling autobiography My Cross To Bear. Tyson Ritter, Wyatt Russell, Zoey Deutch and William Hurt also star. Miller and Savin are also producing and Allman and manager Michael Lehman are exec producers on the pic. Lindberg is repped by Creative Partners Group.

EXCLUSIVE: Cory Michael Smith (Camp X-Ray) has signed on to Todd Haynes’ Carol opposite Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. Picked up by the Weinstein Company in Cannes last year, Carol chronicles the burgeoning and tempestuous relationship between two very different women in 1950s NYC. Smith will play Tommy, a seemingly charming traveling salesman who meets Blanchett and Mara’s characters on the road. Filming is scheduled to start in mid-March on the Phyllis Nagy penned adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s novella The Price Of Salt. Kyle Chandler and Sarah Paulson also star. Smith appears in Sundance pic Camp X Ray opposite Kristen Stewart and the upcoming HBO mini Olive Kitteridge opposite Frances McDormand. He is repped by Paradigm and Circle of Confusion.

Penelope Mitchell (The Vampire Diaries, Hemlock Grove) has landed a role in director Chris Fitchett’s supernatural thriller The Fear of Darkness. Produced by Mark Overett and Pandala Films, the indie feature centers on a brilliant young psychiatrist who, while investigating the supernatural disappearance of a university student (Mitchell), is forced to confront the dark creature that dwells deep within her own unconscious. Production is set to begin next month on the Gold Coast. Greenlight Releasing will distribute the pic in Australia in 2015, with Arclight Films handling international sales. Mitchell recently wrapped shooting a supporting role in the Blumhouse feature Curve. She is repped by APA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and JM Agency in Australia.
