The Arab American News, headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan, endorsed Ron Paul as its choice in Tuesday’s Michigan Republican primary.

In an editorial published Friday, the newspaper said the central reason for supporting Paul is also one of the major reasons Republicans rule out the Texas congressman as their first choice: his foreign policy philosophy.

Because of Paul’s cautioning against the consequences of being “policemen of the world,”  the Arab American News believes he may be the only hope for balanced policy in the troubled Middle East.

“Paul has also been the only major Republican candidate to resist the type of anti-Arab, anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant demonization, fear-mongering and pandering to ultra-conservative voters in his party that has become pervasive in the post-9/11 climate,” the editorial reads.

The newspaper acknowledged several concerns about Paul, including his age, the potential difficulties of making such drastic policy transitions, and the fact that he wants to eliminate five government departments. Overall, though, it commends Congressman Paul’s consistency and his commitment to restoring the Constitution.

“With so few dynamic, true public servants in Washington like Paul in this increasingly fascist era of corporations-as-people, we must support those that remain with all of our political fervor going forward.”
