Description

The Edison mansion has always been a creepy old house on the edge of town. There have been rumors of strange experiments going on and of odd creatures living amongst the Edison family. There is even a story that a meteorite once crashed near the home nearly 20 years ago. More immediately, a girl named Sandy has gone missing from the local highschool and her boyfriend Dave swears that he saw Dr. Fred abducting her. Dave knows that he cannot do it alone and will need help from two other students if he has any hope of infiltrating the mansion and rescuing Sandy.

Players start by choosing two students to accompany Dave to the Edison mansion, and can then switch between these three characters at will. Most actions are carried out by selecting verbs on the screen and applying them to an object (such as "OPEN Door"). Each character maintains a separate personality and may have a different way to solve a problem from his classmates. Thus many of the puzzles can be overcome in different ways depending on the character being used. If any one of the kids are captured by the Edisons, they are thrown into the dungeon and must be rescued themselves by any character who still has their freedom.

Subject: Maniac Mansion blaster master vs. maniac mansion ?
this is a game that made gamers wonder..what is it about ?
a early nes game with more features like multiple endings..alot of gamers bought this one..40 bucks for nes games..that's still alot Reviewer: Christine1219 - - June 28, 2016
Subject: Need assistance Why can't I get it in full screen? Why can't I get it with sound? Why can't I use my mouse? Love this game. Such fond memories of playing this with friends. Reviewer: VisionRSA - favoritefavoritefavoritefavoritefavorite - January 8, 2016
Subject: The game that started it all. F5 to save you game.

This game was a first in terms of multitasking adventure games where things were happening in the background elsewhere. A new experience on the C64 at the time.

The music on C64 was much better but the game is great. Reviewer: ed0li - favoritefavoritefavoritefavorite - December 22, 2015
Subject: The Ultimate DOS Experience Unlike the Enhanced version on here, use your mouse and click to work the cursor.

Still haven't found a way to save the game to come back, so plan to play in one go.

Subject: Get ScummVM This is one of the best adventure games ever made (and its creators Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick are releasing a follow-up game, Thimbleweed Park next year), but works perfectly with the ScummVM emulator unlike here. ScummVM removes the anti-piracy steel security door codes and the cursor does not malfunction. Reviewer: MandyMarieB - favoritefavoritefavoritefavoritefavorite - January 8, 2015
Subject: My childhood! This was my favorite game as a kid. It still holds a special place in my heart! Reviewer: ManiacMansionExpert - favoritefavoritefavoritefavoritefavorite - January 7, 2015
Subject: Press Shift-M to activate the mouse This game is great!

The reason why many of you are having mouse issues is that the game does not activate the mouse by default in the MS-DOS version.

You have to manually activate the mouse. Type Shift M to toggle the mouse on.

You can find this and other controls by looking up the manual on Google. You'll also need to look up the manual to bypass the steel security door, which was a rudimentary form of copy protection. You type in the proper code, and the steel door opens. If not, the house explodes in a nuclear meltdown (ha!)

Have fun! Reviewer: kylescollin - favoritefavoritefavorite - January 7, 2015
Subject: Excited, but mouse issues! I have fond memories of playing this game! I really want to play it, but I'm finding that the mouse cursor doesn't match up correctly. Would love to see that fixed! Reviewer: TdarKoNe - favoritefavoritefavoritefavoritefavorite - January 7, 2015
Subject: An all-time favorite! I played this game when I was just a kid, and even today it's still so much fun. It has a steep learning curve if you've never played a point and click adventure before but it's well worth giving it a try.

For those having trouble with the cursor - I found that if you play in full screen mode that you don't have this problem. Reviewer: JoshTewell - favoritefavoritefavoritefavoritefavorite - January 7, 2015
Subject: Regarding the mouse start issue posted earlier I am able to click the start button and play the game fine if I enter full screen mode. Reviewer: Axelle Darkleigh - favorite - January 7, 2015
Subject: Doesn't Work I would LOVE to play this game... However it doesn't even get passed the Character Select screen. You can bring the cursor no where NEAR the start button so... Yeah.
